| Humidity Control is critical to maintaining the quality and life span of your hardwood floor. If you don't have air conditioning. Consider using a dehumidifier in the summer. And a humidifier in the winter when overheating tends to dry wood floors out. |
| Refrain from damp mopping your wood floors or using a home made mixture of vinegar and water - use a quality floor care kit instead that is formulated to clean and protect your floor with a minimum of added moisture. |
| Before installing a new wood floor - it is preferable to leave the loose planks in the room prior to installation to allow it to acclimate to the room's humidity. |
| Cupping and crowning are common problems that result from moisture imbalances in the floor. In cupping, the water comes from underneath the floor and the edges of a board are high and its center is lower. Crowning occurs when the moisture comes from the top and has the opposite convex, appearance. |
| Identify and remove the source of the moisture. If the cupping does not improve on its own as it dries out try using fans to expedite the drying process. |
